Neath Port Talbot Driving Instructors Association works in partnership with the Local Authority Road Safety team on a variety of projects and initiatives that include:

  • Drive IQ - an exciting computer software based development package aimed at those who wish to take the first steps in the learning to drive process. By registering with Drive IQ, potential drivers are able to learn 24/7 via the internet and can take advantage of the free question bank and hazard perception clips to practice for the theory test. The Drive IQ course consists of modules that can lead to a BTEC qualification. The sixth form College at Neath, St Josephs sixth form and Ystlafera sixth form students are already enrolled and taking part in Drive IQ which forms part of the Welsh Bac programme. This project is unique as it is only available for the first time in Wales in Neath Port Talbot. The local authority, educational establishments and driving instructors are working together on a unique scheme to develop aspiring and new drivers, leading to better drivers and safer roads.
  • Pass Plus Cymru - a post test driver training scheme for new drivers to develop learning in motorway driving and night driving and to reduce the risk of collision for those in the 17 to 25 year age group. Neath Port Talbot Road Safety team were responsible for redeveloping the course and bringing it up to date with the needs of the new driver of today. The Pass Plus Cymru initiative consists of an evening theory seminar, followed later by a full day of practical driver training, currently subsidised by the Local Authority by over £100 to an affordable £20. It is recognised by most insurance companies, some of whom providing a generous reduction in premium for those who take and complete the training package.
  • Driver Awareness Course has been developed by the Local Authority Road Safety Team designed to update rusty drivers or those who may have lost confidence and consists of a morning classroom theory session, followed by an afternoon (three hours) of practical driver training with an Instructor from the association in a vehicle provided for the purpose. The course is popular with older drivers and concludes with a certificate of attendance.
